Spring Skin

April 1, 2015

Spring is finally in the air! Many of us think of this time of year as a time to make a few changes and have a “spring-clean”. We think your skin-care routine should be on your spring cleaning list! Cleansing is a vital element of any skin-care routine, particularly in winter when extra make-up, central heating and lack of sunshine can contribute to blocked pores and dry, flaky skin. So this Spring, let us help you take good care of your skin as we have a number of offers on facials in all 4 of our salons.

We also wanted to share some factors that will impact your skin and some things you can do to help your skin:

Skincare Routine

It sounds obvious but make sure you clean your face, then use toner, then moisturise to make the most of skincare products.

You should clean your face both morning and night. You would think that if you have washed your face in the night it will still be clean in the morning, however this is not the case. Circulation increases overnight, meaning that your temperature also rises, resulting in transpiration. This causes a new layer of excess sebum to form which needs to be removed once again. Skin will have also lost hydration so it is important to cleanse in the morning so that your serums and moisturisers can rehydrate the skin and they will also form a protective layer for your make-up to be applied for the new day.

Exfoliate your face but don’t go overboard; once or twice a week is plenty for luminous skin. Spend time finding the right skincare products for your skin.

Sun damage

No matter your age, you need to protect your skin from the sun. Not only can sun exposure lead to skin cancer, it will also cause dryness, sun spots, wrinkles and other visible signs of ageing. Always use a moisturizer, sunscreen and cosmetics that contain SPF 15 or higher.

Diet

Most cases of bad skin come from the things we eat, so pay close attention to what you are putting into your body. Avoid too much alcohol or fatty, processed foods. If you want skin to look younger and more supple, drinking enough water is a must. Drinking 8 glasses of water per day will flush out skin-sapping toxins and give you a natural glow.

Eat food rich in lutein which helps protect the skin from the inside out. Good sources of lutein are egg yolks & leafy dark green vegetables. Also aim to eat foods that are high in antioxidants like berries, broccoli, leafy greens (kale, spinach) and tomatoes. Vitamin E is another must for skin health. Add vegetable oils, wheat germ, nuts, seeds & olives to your diet for healthy, glowing skin.

Get your Beauty Sleep!

Beauty Sleep is real so make sure you get enough of it, as new skin cells grow over night and replace older ones. Research suggests we should be aiming for 7-8 hours sleep per night. We recommend moisturising morning and evening. While you sleep, your skin renews itself, so give your cells a helping hand at night time!
