Need some help getting ready for the Christmas party?

December 1, 2014

Little Black Dress season is upon us again! Hands up if you are going to a Christmas party this year? A study commissioned by Clothes Show Live revealed that the average British woman spends a staggering 312 hours getting ready for the office Christmas party! The research showed that the festive occasion is the most important event in the female social calendar, ahead of friends’ weddings, dates and even New Year’s Eve parties.

The study showed that on average we will spend 72 hours shopping for an outfit and accessories, 96 hours getting in shape and 23 hours beautifying ourselves. The other hours are made up of taking advice from friends, looking through magazines, hair styling, makeup, exfoliating, waxing, moisturising and tanning. At Lavender and Stone, we’d like to help you with the beauty bit and share some tips about getting glamorous for your Christmas party!

Smoother skin

Don’t let lumps or bumps or put you off wearing your party frock – there’s still time to streamline your silhouette without hitting the gym (although of course any extra time spent in the gym will help!).

Using a body scrub every second day will help you shape up in the shower. As well as stimulating circulation and drainage a good scrub instantly brightens skin and helps party season products such as cellulite cream, fake tan and moisturiser absorb more easily.

We also recommend a blast of cold water over the thighs and bottom at the end of a shower to shock and tighten muscles for a firmer appearance.

A natural glow

Now is not the time to upset your beauty regime with new and unpredictable products at home. Instead aim for beautiful skin from within. Drinking two litres of water every day will flush out skin-sapping toxins and give you a natural glow. Water drunk at room temperature is thought to balance the chemicals and minerals in the face. Exfoliate but don’t go overboard. Once or twice a week is plenty for luminous skin.

Alternatively, get a professional fake tan. We offer tanning treatments at our salons and recommend booking treatments 2 days before the event.

Waxing

Beautiful smooth skin is an essential accessory for that party dress but timing is everything. Remember, waxing can cause temporary redness on sensitive skin, so don’t leave this until the last minute. We recommend waxing a few days before the party.

If any hairs poke through from an eyebrow wax the next day then lay a clean, hot facecloth over it to loosen the follicle. This makes the stray hair easier to pluck without leaving a nasty red mark.

Treat your feet

Many people book a manicure but forget about their feet (especially important if you are wearing party shoes that show your toes). When your feet hurt it shows in your face so treat your tootsies to some TLC in the run-up to a party to keep you on the dance floor for longer. Treat yourself to a pedicure at any of our salons. We currently have our “Jack Frost” offer in all 4 salons where you can save £10 if you book a CACI Chromaclear and shape and varnish on your fingers or toes.

De-Stress

With all of that Christmas shopping, card writing and gift wrapping to do, avoid turning up to the party looking exhausted by allowing yourself some “me-time” a few days before the Christmas party. We have a number of Winter-Warmers available in all 4 salons, including £10 off a back and neck massage and facial or £10 off an Indian head massage and Hopi ear candle therapy. If you’d like to discuss any aspect of your Christmas party beauty regime, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Above all, have a fabulous time and enjoy all of the festivities!
